In the late 1970s, Diana & Ben Porter purchased Warren House, a ruined property located in a Somerset woodland. The pair steadily rebuilt the house and found that the woodland was mainly populated by ash trees, and it was suitable for growing raw material used for making rustic walking sticks. Ben applied the traditional forestry technique of coppicing the trees, thus starting the production of walking sticks. In 1982, they presented a small range of sticks to the local shopkeepers, they later requested a wider selection of sticks. The walking stick business grew increasingly to include more products. The children, Charlotte and Johnny, joined the family business & became partners in 2005.
So how long should my folding walking stick be?
The following method is generally recommend by Physiotherapists for determining the correct height for walking sticks. The user of the walking stick should stand vertically upright, in their everyday type of shoes they normally wear, put their arms by their sides and must be hanging naturally . Get another person to turn the walking stick upside down, ensure that the handle of the walking stick is resting on the floor. Place the walking stick next to the user, Adjust the adjustable walking stick so that the stick level with the bump at the bottom of the wrist bone. If the walking stick is adjusted to the correct height will mean that the user's arm should be slightly bent as they hold the walking stick. This information is a guide only. We would recommend that you should consult your doctor or physiotherapist if you need specific medical advice on this matter.
